ONE MINDFUL CLASSROOM FOR EVERYBODY. FREE.
The Global Classroom Project is underway. A mastermind team of global thought leaders and educators are creating a FREE online platform for every student, teacher, parent, guardian and school community across the globe.
Classroom-ready content highlighting mindfulness technologies will be available to everyone at no cost. All content on this site is being generously donated by our content partners as part of a new global philanthropy. School communities across the world will have easy access to mindfulness practices.
Both in the classroom and at home, teachers, children and families will reap the benefits of happier, more focused students and teachers and more productive learning environments. A prototype and pilot will be up and running in 2018 through the generosity of our partners.
The Global classroom
The Global Classroom’s goal is for every student and teacher in every school around the world to have the chance to learn and experience a range of ‘inward’ technologies for no cost to set them up for life, starting with a trial in 2018.
Gratitude… Mindfulness… Empathy… Understanding… Focus… Resilience… The inwards skills our next generations need to thrive and lead the way.
There’s already a wealth of research, programs, social and scientific proof across the globe of the importance of an ‘inward’ focus and its positive effects on mental health, better performance, brain health and overall wellbeing. But is yet to reach mainstream, particularly in our underserved school communities, where the inequality of poverty, lack of resourced quality teachers and even regular internet access are still high needs to be resolved.
We know it is going to take our global village to deliver the answer – partnering with leading educators and thought leaders, school leadership teams, administrators, teachers, parents, students and politicians to design and deliver a solution for inclusion in all curriculums across then globe, in a way that’s right for local cultures and communities.
WHAT WE ALL WANT
Leading influencers in mindfulness, positive psychology, neuroscience and self-development worldwide, as well as dedicated mission-driven activators and practitioners, are coming together to find the simplest solution to open access to mindfulness. They are intent on making these inner technologies available to every school around the world at no cost to communities. These amazing and generous practitioners and social entrepreneurs are donating their content and their time to this cause.
“We know that people can donate their time, their name and money to a cause. But there is a new philanthropy in town and that is ‘content’. The Global Classroom will be one of the first global collaborative opportunities for content donation as the new philanthropy.”
- Ali Fowler, World Project Partners and GIFT COO.
A recent review in Australia alone, revealed 100’s of mindfulness programs available for students and teachers , yet it is still not mainstream in all Australian schools. This would be very similiar in US, UK, Canada etc despite having access to greater resources. All countries differ in their systems of education, but the challenge to include new content meets with the same barriers as those experienced by most Australian school communities.
WE WILL DO THE HEAVY LIFTING FOR SCHOOL LEADERSHIP TEAMS
One of the key initiatives of the Global Classroom is to do the ‘heavy lifting’ for school leadership teams by providing the business and academic case for schools to adopt mindfulness technologies into the curriculum, as well as the ‘easy execution’ answers as to how to best fit into existing curriculums.
WE WILL HAVE A KEY FOCUS ON TEACHER INVESTMENT
Investing in our teachers is a key focus. If we want our teachers to be the best they can be, their wellbeing is paramount. We know that teachers need to experience mindfulness practices for themselves, before they will comfortably and competently bring it into the classrooms. A growing mastermind of teachers, across countries and cultures, are joining this initiative to ensure we get this right.
WE WILL BE CHALLENGING STUDENTS TO THINK ABOUT THEMSELVES AND THINK GLOBALLY…
Our ‘change maker’ component will provide students with the opportunity to bring the values of service and global citizenship to life. Students will be empowered to support other students, other schools, their local and other communities by putting their key learnings into action. Sharing their stories through video clips, they will be encouraged to lead the way.
WE WILL BE TECH FRIENDLY, WITH AN OFFLINE VERSION…
For school communities where regular internet access is an issue, an offline version will be made available, from the generous support of our donors and supporters.
WE WILL ENSURE CONTENT IS SUITABLE FOR STUDENTS OF ALL ABILITIES...
For schools who have students with special needs, we will partner with leading educators in this field to ensure the content and resources are accessible to every student, regardless of ability or learning challenges.
WE’RE FOR SCHOOLS, BUT WILL INCLUDE COMMUNITY ORGANISATIONS AS WELL...
From the ‘get go’ the Global Classroom will also be made available to nonprofit and community organisations who provide mentorship and assistance to many young people. Together they are already demonstrating positive ripple effects. The Delaware Training Project is already proving this case through working with Boys & Girls Clubs of America and providing mindfulness training in non profit organisations throughout Delaware. As they measure the effects of the positive changes they are seeing, their story will inspire us all.
In a nutshell, the Global Classroom vision is to create a ‘partner-powered technology platform’ of donated content that will consist of introductory ‘try it’ activities, videos, lessons and school ready modules that a school can download and use instantly for free. Any school, parent, teacher or student will be able to log in and access this information at no cost, thanks to the generosity of our partners on this project.
At GIFT, we pride ourselves on getting up and starting, and knowing that all the pieces will fall into place. This is one of the characteristics of ‘change makers’ and if we are going to teach it, we better ‘live it’ 🙂
Seed funding is currently being sought through personal invitations to key foundations and benefactors around the world, as well education, marketing and technology partners, given that it is a big audacious goal on a global scale, that has not been done before.
It is the generosity of these donors at the start of such a big initiative that can pave the way for not just funding the project, but also engaging and sharing this with their networks to garner support so we can impact more lives and sooner.
The market CHALLENGE is significant.
